Gary 'Highlander' Cornish

Welcome to British Heavyweight Boxing

(Facebook.com/British.Heavyweight.Boxing)

We at BHB are free to view boxing pages on Facebook & Twitter (@British_Boxing)

We attend as many live shows & speeches as possible & share news, opinions & photo's via our online outlets,

We have had the chance to catch up with British Heavyweight Gary Cornish

BHB - Hi Gary, So you have a huge fight on September 6th, Now against Ian Lewison after Sam Sexton pulled out with a cracked disc in his back, Does the change in opponent bother you in any way?

GC - Hi James, No not at all, I would have really liked to fight Sam because I met him just before I turned pro and he gave me some good advice and I never thought I would be coming up against him three years later, But it might happen again in the future,  got offered a few different opponents but this is the fight me and my team wanted!

BHB - Ian Lewison has been quoted this week with - "I'm confident because I think he's useless, straight up thats all it is, I think he's pants, I've said it all along, I think the man is useless, the only thing going for him is that he's fit" ..... How do you react to that ?

GC - Everyone is entitled to there opinion, But i am also confident and look forward to the fight.

BHB - The fight takes place in Paisley, Another quote from Ian this week is - "I could fight him in his front room in his house and it would make no difference, the result is still going to be the same, he's going to get beaten, I'll flatten him anywhere"  Do you believe that having the 'Home Advantage' makes any difference when inside a boxing ring ?

GC - Of course everyone likes fighting in front of their own crowd and would like to thank everyone for their support, but when the bell goes, it's two men in a ring

BHB  - The fight with Sam was a British title final eliminator, Has the fight with Ian Lewison had the British Board of Control's approval to stay a final eliminator?

GC - Yeah it has, which makes sense really.

BHB - You have recently been sparring with 'Team Fury' , How much do you think you have learnt spending time with Peter, Tyson & Hughie Fury as well as Eddie Chambers?

GC - I learnt a lot from them as I was staying with them
when I was down and they took me in and treated me like one of their own. Will not meet a nicer bunch of blokes who love to fight!

BHB - Tyson himself fights Dereck Chisora on November 22nd at the Excel Arena, London, Who do you see winning that fight and how?

GC - I've sparred with both and Tyson is better than most people think, Tyson wins for me. Stoppage

BHB - Before the Sexton fight was announced, there was plenty of internet rumor that both you and Sam where possible opponents for Lucas Browne to defend his commonwealth title against, Was a fight with Browne ever discussed with you and is that a fight you would be happy to take in the future?

GC - Yeah there were talks of this fight but didn't happen for some reason or another, Lucas is rated very highly so of course I would want this fight.

BHB - So looking on your impressive start in the professional ranks, 18 wins, 10 inside the distance, who would you say your toughest fight to date was against?

GC - Really hard to say as I train that hard for fights, I really enjoy them when I'm in there!

BHB - As we did an interview with Paul Butlin recently, We have to ask... Low Blow, OR Body shot?

GC - Haha, forgot about this fight! Definitely low blow! only way I was going to win as I got battered in the first 4 rounds, not sure what the judges were watching as they gave me every round, But I could feel him getting stronger in every round, And now I have to live with that, Not sure how I will sleep at night..... Is it possible to fight Paul without hitting a ball bag ?

BHB - Should you capture the British title, A fight with Anthony Joshua may be on the cards at some point, Is that a fight you have given any thought about?

GC  - No I haven't thought about any fights... Only my next one

BHB - So in an ideal world, what would you liked to have achieved in boxing over the next 2 years?

GC - To stay undefeated and just see how far I can go as I love this sport, love the training and love the fights !

BHB - Before we let you go, we'd like to find out a little bit more about what Gary Cornish does with his spare time! So, What/Who is your Favorite :

Tv show?

GC - Family Guy, Just Brilliant!

BHB - Film?

GC - Braveheart

BHB - Food?

GC - All Food, Heavyweight!

BHB - Animal?

 GC - Dog

BHB - All time boxer?

GC - Mike Tyson

BHB - Current boxer?

GC - Klitschko

BHB - Hobby outside of boxing?

GC - Used to play a lot of football, dont really get time now, if theres a game on i'll watch it, just enjoy the quiet life really and hitting the gym

BHB - Finally, can you give us a prediction for the Lewison fight?

GC - A Cornish win! Sure he will predict different, if not neither of us would be getting in

BHB - Thanks for your time Gary, unfortunately I cant make the fight, The wife is due on August 26th and I have to say I'm gutted because it has 'Cracker' written all over it! But hopefully we will see you in action again soon after.

GC - Not a problem bud, Thanks for the interview and hope all goes well with the wife & baby

Gary Cornish vs Ian Lewison is a British title final eliminator and takes place on September 6th in Paisley Scotland, Tickets are available to purchase from Saltire Promotions - 0141 810 5700

Richard 'The Inferno' Towers

Welcome to British Heavyweight Boxing

(Facebook.com/British.Heavyweight.Boxing)

We at BHB are free to view boxing pages on Facebook & Twitter (@British_Boxing)

We attend as many live shows & speeches as possible & share news, opinions & photo's via our online outlets,

We recently had the opportunity to catch up with British Heavyweight  Richard Towers.....

BHB - So Rich, we start with the 'comeback', Rumor has it that your looking at a September date?

RT - Hello James, Yes it's looking like September, I can not wait  !!

BHB - You have taken some time out of the ring since the defeat to Lucas Browne,
What have you been up to & why have you decided that now is the time to make a return?

RT - I'm not sure if your aware but my very good and personal friend Adam Booth is training & managing me now & we've been working on everything from the ground up then back down again & now its time to put all our work and Adam's masterful teachings into a fight!

BHB - Looking back at the Lucas Browne fight, do You feel the fight was going to plan before the stoppage & do you feel you will learn from that fight?

RT - Without trying to degrade or make anyone look bad, there was a lot of things that shudda wudda, cudda happened with the fight with Lucas but it is what it is, I lost & he won, that's in the past now, i'm just concentrating on the future now with even more of a point to prove , Exiting ehh !?

BHB - So a fresh beginning and a new plan of attack on the heavyweight division, previously you have bypassed the English & British ranked fighters and headed right to the EBU-EU title, what was the reason behind that?

RT - I'm not really sure of the reasons behind much of the way Dom & John were steering me with regards to titles etc but like you say, its a fresh start and Adam & me have a plan so I'm just itching to get in there against ANYONE & cut me some scalps!!

BHB - Gary Cornish & Sam Sexton battle it out in a British title eliminator, How do you see that fight going & would you be interested in the winner of that should the opportunity arise?

RT - Like i say, I want to fight ANYONE, wherever , whenever, Adam tells me the time is now, I respect everyone who gets in that ring as i think everyone should

BHB - Audley Harrison is currently looking for a way back into boxing ....... ?

RT - I'd be honored to get in & do my best against Audley, If he's a part of our plan it WILL happen I hope

BHB - Is it true that you turned down a short notice fight with David Price?

RT - I have never personally turned any fight down in boxing up to date, Maybe when outside boxing in trying to avoid more prison haha !! , But no, I never personally turned down a fight against anyone, I am lucky enough to say even before me and Adam started working together, I've never had to worry about the political side of boxing, it was all done for me

BHB - Did you watch Lucas Brown vs Andriy Rudenko & did you think Browne did enough to win?

RT - I haven't watched Lucas' fight & if it wasn't as clean a win as he's been getting, I'm sure it was just a case of a bad day at work, everybody in every profession has um, He got the win & I'm sure he deserved it!

BHB - Dereck Chisora vs Tyson Fury never made it to the ring, If & when that fight happens, how do you see it that going?

RT - I personally think Tyson would win a fight with Chisora if it does happen again, just from sparring with Tyson he's much better than people realize, he adapts well & he just wants to fight & be the best! Not suggesting Dereck doesn't tick all the above he's a warrior too that is undeniable but i just think the heavyweight division is now a big 6"7 plus, mans game, "The New Generation"

BHB - You had a bit of 'Twitter Wars' with Ian Lewison a few months back, looking at the British rankings that would make a great fight on paper, why did that fight not materialize & could it happen in the future?

RT - Who ??? Sorry I don't even know what your talking about haha

BHB - Your now 34 years of age, what would you like to accomplish in boxing before you retire from the sport & do you have in mind a particular time or age that you will hang the gloves up?

RT - James..... I just wanna fight & do the damn best I can in every meaning of those words, So who knows, lets just HAVE IT haha

BHB - You have signed us some gloves and pictures, and have a good reception in general by most boxing fans, do you get that recognition of fans asking for pictures etc when out in public?

RT - Haha, no not really but if you think about it, I've not really achieved anything significant enough in boxing to be getting recognized by everybody,
Every now and then i get people recognizing me & i just feel really privileged & happy there's people who appreciate the graft us fighters put in, the ones who take it seriously anyway!,
If anyone asks me for an autograph or anything like that i'd never be a prick about it, We all share the same 24 hours, the only difference is what we do with it,
I look down on no one.... only those who victimize others

BHB - Finally Rich, You have a fantastic story to tell, from your previous background to the work you do today and how humble you are with it, have you considered a autobiography at all?

RT - Most definitely I'd love to tell my story to help the younger generation have some sort of guidance to follow by example but that's a later plan, First I'm gunna achieve a credible, significant level then i'll think about writing it all down, But for now I'm focused on the fighting and whatever comes with it.

BHB - Thanks for your time Rich & we wish you all the best with the comeback and the future challenges ahead, Hopefully when the date & venue is announce we can get tickets and catch up with you there!

RT - Most definitely pal & No, Thank you for taking the time to contact me, its much appreciated,
I'll let you know & keep you posted!

Paul Butlin

Welcome to British Heavyweight Boxing

(Facebook.com/British.Heavyweight.Boxing)

We at BHB offer Free to view online boxing fan pages on Facebook & Twitter (@Brirish_Boxing) , as well as direct Email service to b.h.b@live.co.uk & you can also now find us on Snapchat & Instagram, Username: britishboxing

We have had the opportunity to catch up with British Heavyweight Paul Butlin, who has kindly given up some free time to give us a Q&A session,

BHB -  Hi Paul firstly thank you for taking the time to do this Q&A with us,
You have a big fight with Nottingham's Shane 'Mr Block' Mcphilbin on 17th May for the Vacant Midlands Heavyweight Title, How is training going?

PB - Training has gone amazing for this fight.. Probably one of the best camps iv'e ever had , Sparring, Running & pads all bang on for this fight.

BHB -  How well do you know Shane & have you done much sparring together in the past?

PB - I know Shane through him coming down my gym for sparring & having the same manager, Carl Greaves.

BHB - You turned down a fight with American Eddie Chambers, now a part of 'Team Fury' in preference to this fight with Mcphilbin, was that a personal or financial decision?

PB -  Personal, I really want this Title, Of course the money to fight Chambers was a lot more money, But this Title is through hunger which I still have for the game.

BHB -  Having fought at some of the biggest names in the sport such as Dereck Chisora (twice) Johnathon Banks, Edmund Gerber, Albert Sosnowski & Lucas Browne to name just a few, Do you relish the challenge of being the underdog trying to cause an upset more than being the favorite at a small hall show?

PB - Either really, I get the buzz either way... I do like the challenge of highly ranked fighters at short notice because one win could get me bigger fights.

BHB - Dereck Chisora famously bit your ear in 2009, how is your relationship with Dereck now?

PB -  Iv'e not seen Dereck for a while, Of course I was pissed for years but Iv'e let that one slide.. I still say he but me in frustration as he couldn't stop me, But I do think he's one of the most improved heavyweights in the UK right now.

BHB - You have traveled abroad to fight, as well as all over the UK against some of the highest ranking heavyweights around, in which fight did you earn your highest purse?

PB - Fighting big Larry as it was 24 hours notice, But I always get paid well fighting good lads, And they pay as I will get up & fight.

BHB - You got stopped in the 5th round against Scotland's Gary Cornish, at the time you felt it was a low blow, looking back now do you still stand by your thoughts that it was an illegal blow ?

PB - Yeah defo low blow, It was a joke & he knows it but to be fair I was losing the fight, But I was coming on strong! ... He has to live with that not me.

BHB - Recently you were in with Anthony Joshua, Was he the challenge you expected or did he surprise you with anything?

PB - He surprised me with his power & speed, I have never been hit so hard in my life & the shot that put me down with was very accurate, Great shot.

BHB - Sticking with Joshua, He has most of Britain's hopes on his shoulders, Do you believe he will be a World Champion & do you have any words of advice for him?

PB - Yeah he will go to the top trust me, I should know, Iv'e been in with them all... I had 10 weeks notice, I felt fit & strong & he ruined me! ..... Iv'e already chatted on email after the fight, Joshua is a cracking lad, I told him to stay grounded & not to change with fame, He's lucky to have a great trainer & Matchroom behind him.

BHB - Who did you enjoy watching box before you made the decision to turn professional yourself?

PB - Of  course there's only one Mike Tyson, My favorite fighter, I also liked Benn, Eubank & Naz

BHB - You have had 30 professional bouts since 2002 & having just turned 38 years old, still receiving offers for fights with Eddie Chambers & title fights is an achievement in itself, but have you set yourself any other goals in boxing?

PB - Yeah of course I'm always learning, I started boxing at 24 & turned pro at 26, I dont smoke or party & love the training side as much as fighting.

BHB - Some fighters set themselves retirement dates, have you given any thought to hanging up the gloves?

PB - I will know trust me, If every fight was as tough as Joshua then yeah, time to finish.... but i'm back on it & feeling so strong & ready to beat on Shane!

BHB - You have a gym in Melton Mowbray Leicestershire, but what other hobbies do you enjoy away from boxing?

PB - Yes my Gym Hardknocks - Boxing, MMA & Fitness which is really busy, mostly based around fitness side, Hobbies are boxing! (laughs out loud) & of course spending time with my wife Emma & kids Georgia, Amelia & Oscar.

BHB - We have two huge fights coming up here in England this year, Froch vs Groves (2) & Chisora vs Fury (2)..... Who Wins & How?

PB - Defo Froch again, He was to strong last time & I thought Groves was about done when it was stopped, Great perfomance last time by Groves but that was then & this is now, Froch in 10....
Sitting on the fence with Chisora vs Fury, Totally different fight to last time.... Maybe an upset with Chisora winning late.

BHB - Thanks for your time Paul & we wish you all the best for May 17th, We have our tickets booked already so we hope to catch up with you again on the night, But just give our readers a reminder of how they can get their tickets?

PB - No worries be good to see you, please do say hello, They can get tickets from myself or Carl Geaves.

Tickets for Shane Mcphilbin vs Paul Butlin for the vacant Midlands Heavyweight Title are on sale Now & can be purchased from www.carlgreavespromotions.co.uk

Lucas 'Big Daddy' Browne

Welcome to British Heavyweight Boxing

(Facebook.com/British.Heavyweight.Boxing)

We at BHB offer Free to view online boxing fan pages on Facebook & Twitter, as well as direct Email service to b.h.b@live.co.uk & you can also now find us on Snapchat & Instagram, Username: britishboxing

We have had the opportunity to catch up with undefeated Australian Heavyweight Lucas 'Big Daddy' Browne, who has kindly given up some free time to give us a Q&A session:

BHB - Hi Lucas, Firstly thank you for taking the time to do this Q&A with us,
So currently your boxing record stands at a perfect 19-0 with 17 coming inside the distance,
Your next fight coming up against Eric Martel Bahoeli on 26/04/14 in Sheffield England for the vacant Commonwealth Heavyweight title,
How much do you know about your opponent and how confidant are you of taking the title back to Australia?

LB - I know that he's got power, he's a big boy and I wont be taking him lightly, but I'm always confident going into any fight.

BHB - Will you be involved in the Super8 Tournament coming up in Auckland on June 4th?

LB - No I'm not, I've been told it's not part of my Promoters plans for me, and I don't get a say unfortunately, So I'll have to watch someone else collect the $200k

BHB - Last year you seem to have stepped up your level of opponents by fighting the likes of James Toney, Travis Walker and Britain's Richard Towers, But at the same time failed to lure the likes of Tyson Fury, Dereck Chisora & Deontay Wilder into the ring as well as David Price choosing to vacate and even internet rumors of a fight with American Kimbo Slice, Have any of these fights ever been close to being agreed, and have you found this frustrating?

LB - I wanted to fight Kimbo Slice a while ago but I was told I was too dangerous. I want to keep stepping up and challenging myself, but I can only fight who Hatton put in front of me.

BHB - A few weeks ago you had a Twitter 'rant' seemingly aimed at your Promoter Ricky Hatton for failing to keep you busy with big fights, Do you believe that a Commonwealth Title and higher ranking will make it easier to secure these big fights, and are you still happy working with Hatton Promotions?

LB - I just want to keep fighting and keep knocking people out.

BHB - Which of your previous fights would you class as the best performance of your career and why?

LB - I'm never happy with my performances, I think the Toney fight was good to show I can do the distance, The walker fight to show what level I'm at and the Towers fight to show I can finish a fight.

BHB -  You have been vocal about trying to get a slot on the Chisora vs Fury undercard with Audley Harrison mentioned as a possible opponent, any news on whether you will be on the card on July 26th?

LB - That's just Twitter chatter, all decisions about who I fight are with Hatton, Not me.

BHB - Who wins and how, Chisora vs Fury ?

LB - I still think Fury wins because of his reach.

BHB - Fellow Australian Alex Leapai gets his shot at Wladimir Klitschko on 26/04/14 , A fight which no doubt
you have a keen interest in, how do you see that fight going?

LB - Good luck and congrats to Alex but he's outclassed in this one.

BHB - You have come into Boxing having previously been involved in MMA, was this always apart of the plan?

LB - I wanted a belt in Boxing , MMA and Kickboxing when i first started. I got a belt in MMA and 5 so far in boxing so I'm doing ok.

BHB - Did you have a boxing idle as a child and is there a boxer from the past you would love to have shared the ring with?

LB - Without a doubt.. Mike Tyson.

BHB - For a boxer from Australia, you have a huge fan base following here in the UK, Why do you think that is?

LB - I can fight, I knock people out, I tell it how it is and don't talk shit.

BHB - What are your future goals left to achieve in boxing?

LB - I want to be able to buy my own car, and have my own house, That's all that matters.

BHB - You recently started selling your own clothing range, is it available for fans in the UK to purchase?

LB - They're selling on www.urbantees.co and are available Worldwide.

BHB - Finally, if anyone doesn't already follow you and your career on any of the social media sites, how can they find you?

LB - big_daddy_browne1 on Instagram, bigdaddybrowne1 on Twitter & Lucas Browne and Big Daddy on Facebook

BHB - Thanks for taking the time to do this Q&A with us and we wish you all the best on the 26th of April & also hope to see you back here in England on the Chisora Fury undercard

LB - No Drama.

Kash Ali

Welcome to British Heavyweight Boxing

(Facebook.com/British.Heavyweight.Boxing)

We at BHB offer Free to view online boxing fan pages on Facebook & Twitter, as well as direct Email service to b.h.b@live.co.uk & you can also now find us on Snapchat & Instagram, Username: britishboxing

We have had the opportunity to catch up with undefeated 22 year old British Heavyweight Kash Ali, who has kindly given up some free time to give us a Q&A session:

BHB - So its been a great start to life as a professional boxer & a record of 6-0 proves it, Your last fight coming on 29/11/13, When can we expect to see you back in the ring?

KA - Yeah its been a good start to my career and hopefully should be around April time

BHB - You have fought James Oliphant 3 times in a 6 fight career to date, how & why has that happened?

KA - On our 1st meeting it was both our debuts, he came to win, then i boxed him again on my 4th fight as this helps me to get experience because he is a tough guy, Then our 3rd fight was a last Minuit phone call due to my original opponent pulling out & he was our only option willing to fight at short notice.

BHB - Do you have a promoter & manager at this point & are you still working out of the Ingle gym?

KA - Yes my manager is John Ingle who sorts out my fights & I train at the famous Ingle gym in Sheffield which i get trained by Brendon & Dom Ingle.

BHB - Are you a full time boxer or do you have a 'normal' job outside the sport?

KA - Yes i train full time & this is my full time job & career.

BHB - Who was your childhood idle in boxing?

KA - I'v always looked up to Mike Tyson, I just love his style & how fast he was, But I also like others like Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield, Shannon Briggs, Mainly the good heavyweights.

BHB - Is there a current boxer you look at right now as a role model?

KA - Yes, got to be the Klitschko brothers, How they are so calm & just do the business on who ever is front of them.

BHB - What are your short term goals in boxing?

KA - Well fight as much as possible, get all the experience & what ever my team say i'm ready for.

BHB - Do you look at young guys in the sport like Hughie Fury & Anthony Joshua who already have big fan bases & promotional deals with high hopes or as potential opponents for yourself?

KA - Yes they are doing well & I wish them all the best but we need people like them & me to make good fights in the future, I wanna be the best so yes maybe in the future it can happen.

BHB - Winning all 6 of your fights to date must be a great feeling but does having no Tko/ Ko wins as yet worry you at all? , Do you believe you have the power to get those early stoppage wins?

KA - No it doesn't worry me at all no, I can punch & them guys never really get stopped so at the Minuit I'm just trying to get rounds in & getting experience & all of them who I fought have told me I hit really hard & they have been in with the top fighters.

BHB - Who wins & how, Chisora vs Fury?

KA - I think its what Fury turns up, If he keeps him long & boxes him he could win on points or get a late stoppage, but if he starts to brawl with him where Chisora is dangerous, Fury could get caught... Be interesting! .

BHB - What do you hope to have achieved by the end of 2014 ?

KA - Just a few more fights under my belt to get the experience then take it from there.

BHB - Is there anything you would like to tell us about yourself, your career, your future, opinions on current fighters or just facts about Kash Ali?

KA - I'm the first British Asian heavyweight to carry the British flag & become the first British Asian heavyweight champion God willing, I'm just taking it one step at a time and learning my trade. There are good fighters in the heavyweight scene, Now Vitali Klitschko has retired the mix is good and open for us all. I'm a young heavyweight, only 22 so still very young and want to become the best in my division.

BHB - Finally if anyone out there wants to follow your career as it unfolds, are you on Twitter, Facebook or any other social media sites?

KA - Yes, I'm on Facebook (Kash Ali) , & also on Instagram 313KASH, So get me on them!

BHB - Thanks for your time Kash & we wish you all the best in the future.

KA - No problem anytime, And thanks.

Interviewed by James Morris (Twitter @missingsnoop) , with special thanks to Kash Ali , All Comments Welcome.
